DODGERS TRADE SECOND BASEMAN GAVIN LUX TO CINCINNATI

Los Angeles - The Dodgers have struck a deal with the Cincinnati Reds to trade away Gavin Lux in exchange for a competitive balance Round A draft pick and prospect outfielder Mike Sirota.

The move comes a day after the announcement of the signing of Hyeseong Kim from the KBO. The Korean infielder has won three Gold Gloves at both second and shortstop in his young career and it appeared that Dodgers might start him over Lux.

Now that question has been answered. Lux will be a Cincinnati Red in 2025.

The second baseman from Kenosha, has one more year of arbitration in 2026 until he becomes a free agent in 2027 at the age of 29. Lux is also coming off one of his best offensive seasons with the Dodgers playing 139 games and hitting for a .703 OPS.

Lux tore his ACL back in spring training of 2023 when he was expected to take over the starting role at short. Upon his return in 2024, he digressed in his ability to make a throw from shortstop, and it was announced Betts would make his way into the infield to fill that gap. Miguel Rojas also signed back in 2023 to help with infield defense which Dave Roberts emphasized as an important part to their culture success.

Gavin will be replacing second baseman Jonathan India in Cincinnati after his departure in a trade to Kansas City.  The Reds have some high upside with Lux, with his offensive output not much different compared to India both in the .700 OPS range.

As for the Dodgers they will receive a draft pick around #37, according to Jeff Passan. Along with the pick they have received Mike Sirota, a prospect from the 2024 MLB draft. LA selected Sirota in the 16th round of the 2021 MLB draft, but he decided to continue his baseball career at Northeastern University. The outfielder has yet to play a game in the minor system, so this is a player the Dodgers have spent some time eyeing in their system.
